Romantic room makeover’s

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog

Today being Valentine’s Day, most of you with partners would be in a romantic mood. And there would be plans for dinner either just the 2 of you or friends and family joining in your celebrations.

Some of you maybe wanting to make this day special just by spending some quality time together at home just the two of you.

In such a case you would want your bedroom’s to look and play the part in your romantic adventure together.

Now mostly when we think of Valentine’s Day the first thought to spring in our head is the colour Red.

We associate Love with the colour red hence a whole day dedicated to love must have red in it.

So we figure painting a room red would make it more romantic, or lining up the room with maximum number of red accessories would make it romantic, but is this how it is supposed to be? Would red therapy in your room make it more romantic or would it just make it too loud to be felt cozy in.?

Let me tell you something, no matter how much the colour red would be representing love and affection etc, it, if used in excess will become boring, loud, dull, and drag. I know Red is primarily associated with Love but one must not forget it’s also the colour associated with war and anger, your face turns red when you are embarrassed or feeling shy it also turns red when you are angry.

So should you be red washing you entire room and creating some sort of disharmony? I think no.

Let me help you create the right mood for your romantic endeavor

Let us begin

  1. The very first step and I mean pre- everything step, would be to CLEAN your room.

I cannot emphasize enough the difference just this one step would make in your room,

Now I know time is of essence here so I am not going to ask you to clean your whole wardrobe, but the room or whatever you can see lying around has to go to its proper place and there should be no clutter seen in front

  1. Once you have cleaned the room now you are in a better position to see what can be done and what needs to be done
  • Start by changing the bed sheet
  • 367521-54614-15

This is the most under rated act to be done in a bedroom, once you change your bed sheets and pillow covers and put new clean once you will find a very new room staring back at you

For the cozy romantic feel, my best tip would be, look at the wall colour of your room, mostly it’s all white or pale pastels, so go with a darker color like a darker brown, yellow or red even, no blues as it’s a cold color and we want warmth and coziness.

  • Dust the furniture in your bedroom, make everything shine.
  • Change the curtains or drapes, try to keep the colours of all the fabrics in your room mostly similar to give a unified decorated look

  1. Now that you have covered all this, its time to accessorize
  • now this can be done in many ways,

(a)    for people on a liberal budget, a quick stop at any furnishing store can help you

(b)   but those of you on a tight budget, this is the best time for showing your DIY skills

Here are certain DIY project links which are less time consuming and also pocket friendly

This beautiful vase isn’t difficult nor expensive and best can be made at home

This wall feature can even go above your head rest and can also be put up in some empty wall in your room

Now as you can see these candles look complicated but think how easy are they to make

The 1st one its just a vase with a floating candle

The 2nd is just a candle with heart made on the holder

The 3rd id just the letter’s love carved in cardboard and covered with red crafts paper with a good sized red flower vase in between

See all this looks nice and sort of complicated but isn’t when you come to think                         of it, its pretty doable

But believe me even a collage made with old pictures of you two together is also 1 of the greatest accessory that you can hang up in a good frame on your walls.

Even re-furbishing old picture frames or just by adding a few scented candles to the room will make a great deal of difference

*re-furbishing- painting here

4. Now once this is done spray your room with some warm scent or place a good potpourri in the room for a nice soft fragrance, this will brighten up the mood and also lighten up a person

5. Now look back relax and see your room is done and you can have an amazing time together, just the 2 of you in your own cozy space.

creating the right look for your small bedroom

In today’s day and age buying property is a big deal, the soaring prices are doing nothing to ease the discomfort of the home owner, top it all with the ever decreasing size of the living space provided by the said property to your average budget home owner. If you have a look at any flat in and around a mega metropolis you would clearly understand what I am talking about.

Our houses have become smaller in size but the amount of stuff we keep in our houses is not reducing, on the contrary its increasing with the ever increasing consumerism. Markets are a flood with new stuff and newer wants. Insatiable wants, some very basic and some not so very basic.

As a home owner you would want, that no matter how small your living area it should be able to cater to all your storage needs, from clothes to bed linens to cosmetic, from beautiful china ware to small stuff as table mats. All items that we need occasionally to those that we need regularly, every one of it no matter how small requires a comfortable storage space.

I once had an opportunity to design a house for a newly married couple. Both were working and had no time nor idea as to how they can utilize the limited area their new house gave them.

Let me walk you through the basic layout of their house, it was 1 bedroom hall kitchen flat. With 2  bathrooms. You entered into a living room which was somewhat L shaped so 1 part of the L became the entertainment/guest area. The other L became the dining area which was closest to the kitchen.

The kitchen was a rectangular layout parallel kitchen. Nothing very fancy just that it had a decent dry balcony.

Between the kitchen and the dining area there was a small passage which had the common bathroom, at the end of this passage was the bedroom (master bedroom) with the attached bathroom. This bedroom had a decent sized balcony where you could manage to squeeze in two medium size beanie’s at the most.

Now they approached me thru my friend and asked me if I could help them out here as they were newly married and there were loads of stuff in the form of gifts and impulsive purchases that needed to be accommodated in there and they just did not know how.

Since in this blog we are talking about the tackling a small bedroom which also happens to be the master bedroom,  i will refrain from talking about the living room, and other parts of the house. These will become the topic of my next blog.

Now the size of the bedroom was 8X12 ft. with only 2 walls that could be possibly used for anything as 1 wall was the balcony and the opposite wall was the bathroom door. Usually such a layout is very common and not very problematic, but the scene over here was that the area was very small for a traditional bedroom layout.

The client was very clear that they wanted to have a television in the room and also the wife wanted a proper dressing table. Now these were a must, they also were not very keen on the sofa cum bed idea which some other designer they had consulted had given them. And come on who gives a sofa cum bed in a couples room and that too the only master bedroom in the house, So unromantic and not very classy.

Now if u look at the layout, it isn’t as easy as it seems, I myself had to sit and rack my brains a little, but as they say all’s well that ends well. With some correct planning and space management maximum space can be utilized in our not so maximum sized homes. See getting an expert to do up your home costs you some extra money but it also helps in many ways, now there is a reason we go to doctors when we have the flu. And there is a reason why you should take the help of a certified interior designer with a flair for good design when designing your house.

With the correct planning I could give them not only a proper wardrobe, but all their needs of the television and the dresser also got taken care of, what I could give them in the end was a romantic, yet practical space saving bedroom.

And believe me nothing makes a good designer happier than that oh so happy smile on a satisfied clients face. They got everything they wanted and I got a job well done.

How To Treat Your Designer Right

To all of us who have houses (rent/bought) we all want the best for it, the place where we

live does speak a lot about who we are, and i also mean the college students who live in dorms. your house or your living space is an extension of your personality. it speaks a lot about you as a person. so given a chance who wouldn’t love to hire a professional to make it look awesome, make this space that we call an extension of our personalities resemble one of those that can be featured in some home design magazine of sorts.

now in order to achieve this breathtaking result, one may think of hiring a professional (read:interior designer/decorator) to make this dream a reality. Now you may see ‘n’ number of sites explaining/guiding you, as to what is the best way to know the most about the designer you are planning to hire. how to understand their fee structure, their way of handling the projects and all in all how to get the most out of this professional who is gonna handle your space, your home in the budget you provide them and they agree on. they will tell you every way in which you can make your every penny count in this endeavor.

But, having been through most of these sites on my own and being a designer myself what baffles me is that people ignore the very fact about how to treat your designer right
